Web3 gaming giant Star Atlas unveils ambitious plans for gameplay at new town hall
In a comprehensive two-and-a-half-hour event, Star Atlas CEO Michael Wagner and key team members shared a series of significant updates and future plans for the expansive Star Atlas universe. The 43rd Star Atlas Town Hall, dubbed the “Mega Town Hall,” covered a wide range of topics, from upcoming events and new hires to major gameplay updates and the re-launch of the Star Atlas DAO.
The event, held in the midst of the bustling Star Atlas community, showcased the company’s commitment to building a robust and engaging universe. Michael Wagner, accompanied by Santi, Dom, and Jose from the Star Atlas Community Team, led the proceedings, highlighting the company’s growth and future plans.
One of the most anticipated announcements was the upcoming release of Crew Packs, which Wagner described as the newest asset class being introduced by Automata into the game. These Crew Packs will feature different rarities and serve a variety of functions, including as avatars in UE5 and SAGE crafting crew. However, the team decided to delay the launch of the crews for consideration of current market conditions and marketing timing.
The team also announced a significant shift in the near-term focus toward updates that will have a significant impact on company operations. This includes a focus on replayable or repeatable gameplay loops, such as the Surge gameplay mode and Fleet Command developments, to attract a wider audience.
Star Atlas is looking to avoid previous failures by Web3 gaming projects to lean too heavily on short-term incentives. Crypto gaming project Axie Infinity was one such example, which saw users collapse from nearly 3 million to just a few hundred thousand in 2022 after prices of in-game elements collapsed.
“I do strongly believe that in spite of the failed economic model of Axie (Infinity), it was a turning point for developers and innovators — such as our team — to come in and build in this space, because we saw the demand,” said Wagner said in May. “There is potential for this idea of play-to-earn.”
The Star Atlas team is also gearing up for a significant presence at Solana Breakpoint 2024 in Singapore, featuring a keynote presentation from Michael Wagner and showcasing gameplay and cinematic elements. Alongside this, they are planning the first-ever Star Atlas conference, dubbed the Star Atlas Summit, which will feature panels from team members, community members, and IP builders.
The company’s economic updates were also a highlight of the event. The Star Atlas GDP grew by 6.24% this quarter, bringing the new annual GDP projection to $34 million. This growth was attributed to the transition from the legacy RFR redemption system to the Loyalty Point system, which provided a more stable and predictable daily emission curve for $ATLAS.
Overall, the Star Atlas Mega Town Hall was a testament to the company’s commitment to building a robust and engaging universe, with a focus on community involvement and continuous improvement. The announcements and updates shared during the event have set the stage for an exciting future for Star Atlas and its community.
